Possibilities of obtaining

The Laboratory of Building Ceramics of the Central Research Institute of Building Materials in Kharkov set the task of finding a way to obtain expanded clay gravel from domestic materials and determine its suitability for building structures. The method of manufacturing expanded clay gravel was developed by the team of scientific employees of the Institute. On the instructions of the Building Department of the Palace of Soviets of the SSR Union, the Institute studied the possibilities of the production of light and durable expanded clay gravel (such as the American Hydita) from the Glin Glin deposits of the Moscow Region in an ordinary tubular stove, and also studied the possibilities of obtaining light and strong concrete on expanded clay gravel. These research gave positive results. The light concrete obtained on expanded clay gravel has a mechanical strength up to 170 kg/cm2 with a volume weight of 1,400 to 1500 kg/m. This work is approved by the construction of the Palace of Soviets.
