Love with confidence
Valentine’s Day originates from the pre -Christian era of ancient Rome. At that time every year on February 15, the erotic festival of Lupercalia was held. It is believed that he is dedicated to the goddess of «feverish» love, who does not even have a Russian -speaking name. There is an opinion that the aforementioned goddess of love with confidence can be called the goddess of debauchery, carnal pleasures, who are far from beautiful sexual relations of a man and woman. In addition, in that era there was a very high mortality among newborn. And by some oracle (apparently, a feminine), a hypothesis was put forward that in order to increase the fertility of women, they must be flogged with belts made of leather sacrifices of the goats. Here you have an erotic festival. There is a crowd of naked people and beats all women. With the formation of Christianity, there were attempts to cancel the celebration of Lupercalia, rightly considered the most lustful and depraved action of Ancient Rome. It is possible that the church authorities gradually decided to supplant the holiday of debauchery and replace it with a romantic and chaste day of St. Valentine. Bishop Valentine is a real historical character, but the earthly being of a modest righteous has overgrown with a bunch of legends and speculations. We are used to believe that he secretly crowned all lovers, for which he was executed. But this is nothing more than a legend that does not have documentary confirmation in the annals of those years. According to another version, more reliable, Bishop Valentine was executed for involving youth in Christian faith. And the fact that the early Christians were persecuted is a well -known fact. Nevertheless, February 14 is the day of the execution of Bishop Valentine, later, elevated to the rank of saints. Since then, Valentine’s Day has been celebrated on February 14, which according to one version, replaced Lupercalia, which was held on February 15. Maybe the proximity of the date also played a role.
